I've got the blues - Dandy Nails

Saturday, August 11, 2012

Nail mail came today. I admit it. Both polishes were blue. I have a thing with blue - dark blue, light blue, sky blue, navy blue, cobalt blue... need I go on?

So when I saw these polishes from DandyNails I couldn't resist.

The formula is awesome. Great application - smooth and wonderful coverage in two coats for Eager Eyes and three coats for Parallel Universe.

Eager Eyes has tons of sparkle and shine. It was hard to capture in the photos. A light, yet bright blue. This quickly moved up on my favorites list.

Parallel Universe is a gorgeous azure blue with a slight shift to purple. But I couldn't catch the duochrome effect in the photo. Wonderful shimmer and shine to this polish.

Now I think I am off to find more blue polishes. One can never have enough blues...

I have swatches of DandyNails Bathed in Light, Look Around and You Set My Soul Alight here.

Bottom line: An indie polish that is classy, elegant and fashionable. I am going to have to check out some more of her polishes! Dandy Nails can be purchased for $8 on her Etsy shop when available.

Hits Mari Moon - Swatches

Saturday, July 7, 2012

Duo-chromes, multi-chromes... who doesn't love them? They are positively wonderful with a subtle color shift and shimmer and shine on every nail.

Hits Mari Moon is a good example of this magical color shifting polish. This polish applies easily and dries quickly. They have drastically improved their brushes also. Gone are the wild-bristled brushes and the new ones are smooth and even.

Hits Mari Moon polishes are available at Llarowe. Llarowe is a one-stop shop for specialty nail polishes that aren't available in stores.

Let's move on to the swatches.

I now think I have a new polish in my top five favorites. Cutie Pie is a vibrant, rich polish that shifts from blue to a rich purple/pink. Just slightly moving your hand provides a full spectrum of the duo-chrome magic.

Unconventional is a rich deep cranberry red that has shimmers of purple and blue. The shift is subtle and classy.

Hits Mari Moon Cool is a wonderful fresh shade of green that shifts to a sapphire blue. Again it is a subtle shift that is mesmerizing.

Mari Moon Artsy is a deep blue/purple that shifts to a purple/pink. It is similar to Cutie Pie but the shift is much more subtle.

Mari Moon Trendy is similar to cool. However the green has a little more yellow in it making it a brighter shade. Again, a shift that is subtle yet noticeable.

Daring is a subdued blue that shifts to a deep pink/purple. This polish has almost a gray sheen that gives it a classy, subtle appearance.

Mari Moon Dreamer is similar to Cutie Pie but the color is a more vibrant purple. Simply gorgeous.

Bottom line: Hits overall is a wonderful brand of polish. But the Mari Moon line is a favorite of mine. Subtle shifts in color and a quick and easy application make this polish a wonderful addition to anyone's collection. Hits Mari Moon iis available at shop.llarowe, com for $8. A very affordable multi-chrome polish.

NOTD: Deborah Lippmann "Private Dancer"

Tuesday, June 5, 2012

I received nail mail today from the wonderful lady behind Cosmetic Sanctuary. Inside was a polish I had to try out immediately -- Deborah Lippmann "Private Dancer." Let me just say it waltzed its way into one of the top polish spots in my collection. Its a purple duo-chrome with a hint of azure blue.

I owned a few Deborah Lippmann polishes before this - but none that grabbed my attention like this. All of these polishes apply wonderfully with superb coverage. I added tiger stripes to match the outfit I am wearing. A couple of the stripes are pretty shaky. But to be quite honest you wouldn't even notice if I hadn't zoomed in.

Max Factor Fantasy Fire - Oooh baby baby

Wednesday, May 2, 2012

I wanted to try the Max Factor Fantasy Fire so much I navigated my way to eBay and stalked auctions for a couple of weeks. I was rewarded with a lovely bottle of polish that mesmerizes and hypnotizes.

Let me say one thing though -- the bottle is tiny!

I used a base color with two coats of Zoya Raven. Which let me say is beautiful on its own.

I normally try to stay away from black polishes. Not because I don't like them but because the application is so unforgiving. I can see every spot of stray polish on my cuticles - especially with the zoom lens.

Then I applied one coat of Fantasy Fire. Ooh La La!

It applies with ease. Although the brush had a few rogue bristles...

This polish shifts from red to green to purple depending on the angle and the light source. There is no sun here today so unfortunately you get artificial light.

Let's get on to the fun stuff. Swatches!

If you can get your hands on this I highly recommend it. But I am also going to give one of these amazing polishes away soon. When my Facebook page hits 1,500 followers there will be a giveaway right here on my blog!

Happy Polishing
