Venique 'Nothing But String,' 'Shocking Peep Toes' swatches, review

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

Press Sample

I have two really fun polishes to share with you today. I have tried Venique polishes before and have yet to be disappointed. The colors are rich and vibrant.
"Women use their hands to do...everything! So when a woman is asked what she desires in a nail polish, her answer inevitably includes beautiful, intense, long-lasting color; exceptional wear; brilliant shine; and shades and finishes guaranteed to boost confidence and attract attention.

Venique gives her all of that and more." - Venique website.

Let's take a look at the polishes I have for you.

First up is Shocking Peep Toes. It is a gorgeous deep blurple. It's got qualities of both blue and purple. The finish is gorgeous, smooth and glossy. I could get lost in this color. This is two coats with a top coat. I am going to show you photos in different lighting. It definitely shows up blue in some lighting and purple in others - although it is predominately purple. My camera really wants it to be more blue than it is.

This is the most color accurate swatch. Look at that gorgeous purple!

Nothing But String is a gorgeous, shimmery top coat. It is loaded with iridescent strips that display a rainbow of colors. It applied super easy and there was no fighting with the strips. They rest flat against the nail. This is one light coat of Nothing But String over Shocking Peep Toes.

Venique polishes make for a great checkerboard mani

Wednesday, January 2, 2013

Venique is a favorite polish of mine. I recently purchased their new collection Venique Goes Hollywood and I love these foil polishes.

I used two of the shades for this checkerboard mani. These polishes worked superb for this as one coat worked nicely. Reels of Fun is the silver foil and Acting is Living is the purple foil. I will share the others with you soon.

I used scotch tape to make this design. It's always a fun nail art method. How would you use these foil polishes?

Venique holiday collection swatches

Wednesday, November 7, 2012

When I saw Venique nail lacquer released a holiday collection I couldn't wait to get my hands on them - and them on my hands.

Venique Nail Lacquer is a professional brand found only in fine salons. The formula is DPB, Toluene and Formaldehyde Free!

These polishes have a wonderful formula and the colors are rich and pure. They have a great dry time and dry to a high gloss finish.

Let's move on to the swatches.

Wrapped in Jewels - a magnificent royal blue with lots of shimmer and shine. This may have just become my favorite blue polish - and I have a lot of blue polishes. Two coats resulted in phenomenal coverage.

Down the Chimney - This is an extremely dark, vampy purple polish. Lots of shimmer is packed into this wonderful polish. The color was hard to capture in the photos but I think you can see the purple shimmer. It's simply amazing!

Venique - It's glitter time!

Wednesday, August 8, 2012

In case you haven't noticed I don't wear much glitter. I love the small macro glitter but I am just not a fan of the chunky glitter. I love the way it looks on other people's nails - I just don't like it on me. I am not sure why.

But back in December I bought this amazing bottle of Venique Twinkling Glitter. I immediately decided I needed a backup bottle just to find it had been discontinued and I could only find it on eBay... if I wanted to pay the price.

So needless to say I am pretty stringy with my Twinkling Glitter. I hadn't worn it in a few months so I decided tonight was the night. Well, I wasn't going to but a good friend, Jessica, told me I had to. And of course I always do what she says...  ;)

I started with a base color of Venique San Tro Play. I love this purple. It is a true purple with shimmer and shine. The dry time is a bit on the long side but it's worth it.

They I applied one coat of Venique Twinkling Glitter top coat. The multi-sized pieces of glitter are prisms of rainbows with holographic shine that a camera just can't capture.

In the first photo I have intentionally left it blurry so you could catch some of the holographic effects.

NOTD: Venique "Hot Date" with glitter tips

Monday, July 2, 2012

I wanted something bright and pink to match an outfit. I immediately grabbed Venique Hot Date. I love my Venique polishes. I haven't had problems with chipping or the formula. It applies even and smooth. I do think it has a longer drying time than some brands.

I used Wet n Wild Coloricon "The Crown is Mine" on the tips. I like those little Coloricon polishes. Lots of glitz and glitter for an affordable price.

My NOTD: Venique Hot Date with dots and stripes. There's even a stripe of glitter in there. I always like dots and stripes together or on their own. Especially when my creativity meter is pegged out.

Random lines and dots make for unique mani

Friday, June 1, 2012

I always strive to be different. It’s just the way I am. I have to make things not-so-simple. And that’s the way this manicure looks. But far from it – It is completely simple.

Venique Rolling Tides with random lines and dots.

I started with a base coat of Butter London’s foundation. I do love that stuff. Then I applied two coats of Venique’s Rolling Tide. Rolling Tide is a gorgeous shade of blue that is the blue of the water in the ocean. It has micro shimmers that add to the overall water look.

Then, I simply took out my white, blue, black and silver striping polishes and applied two strokes of vertical curved stripes in black and white. Following that I applied two horizontal curved stripes in both blue and silver.
Using my dotting tool I added three white dots in the bottom left and top left corner. Then I made four dots of black in a vertical row on the right side of the nail.

Top that off with a nice top coat – I use Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat – to seal and protect your design.

Now that I have told you exactly how I did this manicure – Let me just tell you to let your imagination run free. It surprisingly looks creative now matter how you do it. Let the lines and dots make the design for you.

I want to see yours when you are finished.

Happy Polishing

Venique "Top Thong" top topcoat

Friday, May 25, 2012

I recently received Venique "Top Thong" as a gift. I have several Venique polishes and love them. This glitter topcoat was no different. I applied it over several base colors. China Glaze White on White, Frostbite, and Zoya Raven and Kelly.

I was amazed at how well it applied. It has a superior consistency and the glitter transferred easily and evenly.

It is a bar glitter with other smaller round glitters. The glitter is green, blue and pink. I have to say this may have become one of my favorite glitter topcoats. Venique can be purchased at CosmoProf.

What do you think?

Orly Snowcone and Venique Twinkling Glitter

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

It's a bright spring day and even though it will probably snow at least one more time in Wonderful Wyoming I had to apply a bright spring color to my fingertips. So I pulled out Orly Snowcone (yes I know, it has a winter name.) and applied two coats to my nails. The formula is good. It looks like it is going on streaky but actually dries quite smooth. It's a wonderful color which is comparable to a Robin's egg.

Orly Snow Cone
I added a topcoat of Seche Vite which is a fast dry top coat and it added a wonderful shine to a polish that was actually pretty shiny without it.

The weather is supposed to be bright and sunny tomorrow so I wanted to be able to see glitz and glitter in the sunlight so I added a coat of Venique Twinkling Glitter. I positively adore this glitter polish. This polish is a wonderful mixed size glitter which completely gleams and glows with rainbows in the sun. Unfortunately it is dark now so adding a shot of this in the sunlight is out of the question. Perhaps I will try to capture it tomorrow in the sunlight.

Venique was available at CosmoProf. It was part of a holiday edition and is now discontinued but I have seen it on eBay. I have the one bottle and save it for when I need a quick pick-me-up.

Happy Polishing!

Venique "Deviant Little Sneaker"

Monday, February 20, 2012

Today will be a quick post. I have a glittery Venique for you. Deviant Little Sneaker is a luscious brown with tones of gold and purple. This is two coats and no top coat. Although I would recommend a top coat because it dries a little gritty. The application was great and it has a wonderful thick brush. I honestly can't tell you the staying power of this polish because I change my polish so often.

Happy Polishing!

Nicole OPI "Make a Comet-ment" and Venique "Biker Couture"

Saturday, February 18, 2012

I tried Venique's new color today - "Biker Couture" It is a nice cream-based polish with tones of gray and purple. A couple of people have told me that Venique doesn't have staying power for them. But I have never had that problem. But then again, I don't leave my polish on for more than a couple of days. Even two days is a long time for me to go without changing my polish.

But then I decided to put Nicole OPI "Make a Comet-ment" on over the Venique. Wow! It really pops! Make a Comet-ment is my favorite glitter topcoat. It has an almost holographic sheen to it. With a nice topcoat (I always use Seche Vite) it is a definite "use again" combination for me.

I found the Make a Comet-ment on clearance at Target before Christmas. Which probably means it has been discontinued. I hate it when I find a "drool and die for polish" and can't get it again. So if you find it grab it!

I find Venique on Ebay.

Here are some photos. I tried to get several to show the sheen. But grabbing that with a still camera is next to impossible.

Venique - A must have

Sunday, January 29, 2012

A couple of months ago my sister introduced me to Venique. She is getting her cosmetology license so she has access to things I don't. I ordered this one from Ebay. But I am going to have to get her to be my supplier. I tried the Venique B-Ceen-B-Gorgeous. And that it is... Gorgeous that is.

It has a flawless application. This picture shows two layers of the beautiful lacquer.

It's time to place another order! They are a relatively new company so their color line isn't that extensive yet. But I can't wait to see what they come up with next!

My favorite of the Venique so far is the Twinkling Glitter. I have a post on that beauty here. http://setinlacquer.blogspot.com/2012/01/venique-and-sinful-colors-review.html

Venique and Sinful Colors review

Saturday, January 21, 2012

I am new to all of this and I will be posting swatches, successes and I am sure many failures as well. I hope you will take this journey with me and share your tips and tricks with me and the readers. The first thing I have learned is to use my digital camera instead of my cell phone camera. So you can expect better photos in the next post.

Today I went to a friends house to do our nails. (By the way she is now one of us. I corrupted her.) I put on a base color of gray and a accent stripe of Zoya Charla on. It was a complete failure. The colors just didn't pop. So then I got home and started over. I used Sinful Colors - Mint Apple with Venique Twinkling glitter on as a top coat. Now I wasn't completely impressed with the application of the Sinful Colors. It seemed to have a long drying time and the second coat seemed to remove the first coat.

But I made it work. Then I put on 2 coats of the Twinkling Glitter. OMG! Super easy application and fast drying time. Best of all the Glitter is completely holographic.

I am posting a photo that was taken in artificial light. It just doesn't do it justice.

Here is a video that really shows how holographic the Venique really is. I am truly impressed. The video is a little out of focus but it does so the shimmer, shine and shifting colors.
