July 4th nail art with Salon Perfect

Sunday, June 29, 2014

Time keeps whipping by me. The summer is going to be gone before I know it. But I intend to enjoy every last second of the summer. And Salon Perfect is making it quick and easy with their new products.

Salon Perfect has been busy lately and they just keep knocking them out of the park. They have released the Paint the Town Red, White and Blue collection. This affordable and stylish collection is available at Walmart and has six gorgeous polishes and nine topcoats.
I used Sugar Cube, Blue Ribbon and Twinkle Twinkle for this nail art. I also used Salon Perfect's nail art tape.

I started of with Sugar Cube, which is an amazing white cream polish that is the perfect base for nail art. Then I used scotch tape and applied a diagonal blue section on my nail using Blue Ribbon. Blue Ribbon is a deep shimmery navy blue. Then I used the nail art tape for the red stripes and added dots of Twinkle Twinkle for the stars. Sounds easy doesn't it? It really is.

The dotting tools and nail art brush are sturdy. They are also affordable at $3.98.

The striping tape is great too. You get four rolls of tape for $1.98.

The hardest part of using nail art tape is when you lose the end of the tape. It is almost impossible to find the end of it again. Let me show you what I use to combat the battle of the ends of the tape.

Yep, it's just an empty scotch tape dispenser. I have used mine a lot and it's pretty scratched up. But it still works great. I still use scissors to cut the tape as the edge isn't sharp enough to cut the thin tape. But it sure makes it easy to find that illusive loose end of tape.

These polishes retail for $3.98 each, making having a awesome July 4th mani affordable and easy. Watch for more of the collection on the blog.

Salon Perfect - Star Spangled from the Paint the Town Red White & Blue collection

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

Where is the time going? I wanted to have this entire collection swatched and posted before my camping trip. I didn't quite make it. But I will be camping with stylish nails as I have Salon Perfect's Star Spangled top coat to share with you today!

Salon Perfect has been busy lately and they just keep knocking them out of the park. They have released the Paint the Town Red, White and Blue collection. This affordable and stylish collection is available at Walmart and has six gorgeous polishes and nine topcoats.

The one I am sharing with you today is Star Spangled and the name definitely fits. This star infused topcoat is jam-packed full of red, white and blue stars, and tiny holographic glitter particles. I didn't have to fish much for glitter and it applied easily.

I applied this topcoat over Salon Perfect Blue Ribbon. This deep, shimmery navy blue is a glorious shade that applies wonderfully. I used two coats of Blue Ribbon before I applied Star Spangled. I used Salon Perfect Crystal Clear to add shine and protect my star-studded mani.

Salon Perfect Nail Art Kits and In Bloom Duos make nail art easy, fun

Wednesday, May 21, 2014

Salon Perfect introduces Bloom in Color, a collection of nail art essentials including 2-packs of nail polish in the hottest shades, 3-pack nail art liners, and nail art kits. And I am excited to be able to share some of these duos and nail art kits with you!

For the first look I used Baby Blues from the Bloom 5 duo and the Matte FX from the Lacquer Basics Due. Baby Blues is a perfect sky/baby blue that looks fun mattified. I applied two coats of Baby Blues and applied one coat of Matte FX. Then using a dotter and nail art brush, I applied a little textured design with the same color. Baby Blues needs to be applied evenly to use the Matte FX over so it doesn't show any uneven areas.

I like the subtle look of this nail art.

For the second look I used the Salon Perfect Back to Black nail art kit. It has four different styles of black glitter. I used the larger diamond shapes and the holographic fine glitter for this look. I applied the glitter over Smooth Sailing - a bright blue from the In Bloom 4 Duo.

I love the way the black glitter looks over the bright blue polish. You can see the holographic shimmer in the loose polish.

Salon Perfect Nail Armor Foils make for instant glam

Monday, May 19, 2014

Salon Perfect introduces Bloom in Color, a collection of nail art essentials including 2-packs of nail polish in the hottest shades, 3-pack nail art liners, and nail art kits. And I am excited to be able to share some of these duos and nail art kits with you!
For this look I used Haute Pink from the Neon Pop due and the Nail Armor Nail Foils kit. There are four foils in the kit. A gold holographic, silver holographic, and a straight gold, and straight silver foil. I chose to use the gold holographic foil as I wanted to the strong contrast between the neon pink and the gold holographic foil.

Foils can be tricky sometimes. I find it best to use them as a tip or as an abstract look. For this one I decided to go with just a strip on the tip of one nail.

I applied a coat of Haute Pink, which is a bright and vivacious, true neon pink. Once it was fully dry, I applied a coat of the glue that comes with the kit to the nail on my ring finger. As soon as the glue became clear, I laid the strip across the tip of my nail and pressed firmly for about 10 - 15 seconds. Then I removed the foil strip and had instant glitzy nail art.  The most important thing to remember is to apply an even coat of glue and don't apply the foil until the glue is clear (but don't wait too long.)

I applied a top coat of Salon Perfect Crystal Clear and all was complete. I love these for adding a quick pattern.

I have posted a few of these nail art kits and duos, but stay tuned as I have another kit to try out and share with you.

Salon Perfect Animal Instinct Foil Nail Art Kit

Salon Perfect introduces Bloom in Color, a collection of nail art essentials including 2-packs of nail polish in the hottest shades, 3-pack nail art liners, and nail art kits. And I am excited to be able to share some of these duos and nail art kits with you!

For this look I used Bellini from the Bloom 9 duo and the Animal Instinct Foil Nail Art Kit. There are four foils in the kit and I chose to use the gold accent leopard spots. Foils can be tricky sometimes. But these worked well.

I applied a coat of Bellini, which is a gorgeous and peachy shade of cream polish. Once it was fully dry I applied a coat of the glue that comes with the kit to the nail on my ring finger. As soon as the glue became clear, I laid the strip across my nail and pressed firmly for about 10 - 15 seconds. Then I removed the foil strip and had instant nail art. I didn't press firmly enough at the top and managed to lose a spot (I know, I know... they say leopards can't lose their spots.) but it was easy otherwise. The most important thing to remember is to apply an even coat of glue and don't apply the foil until the glue is clear (but don't wait too long.)

Salon Perfect floral gradient nail art

Friday, May 16, 2014

Salon Perfect introduces Bloom in Color, a collection of nail art essentials including 2-packs of nail polish in the hottest shades, 3-pack nail art liners, and nail art kits. And I am excited to be able to share some of these duos and nail art kits with you!

For this look I used Pocketful of Posies and Cupcake from the Bloom 7 duo and the Salon Perfect Liner Basics kit. The pinks in the Bloom 7 duo are perfect for a gradient ombre look.

I started off with Pocketful of Posies for the base color. I did use three coats as it is a very soft and light pastel pink. Then I added Cupcake for the darker pink in the gradient. These polishes were easy to work with.

Then I grabbed the liners. These liners are perfect for anyone who wants to do nail art. Especially if you want to experiment, but don't want to invest the dollars for nail art brushes. This trio of liners is only $4.98.

The liners applied nice even lines and allowed me to adjust the width of the lines for the flowers and leaves.

Salon Perfect Metallic Glam Nail Art Kit

Salon Perfect introduces Bloom in Color, a collection of nail art essentials including 2-packs of nail polish in the hottest shades, 3-pack nail art liners, and nail art kits. And I am excited to be able to share some of these duos and nail art kits with you!
For this look I used Varsity Blue from the Bloom 5 duo and the Metallic Glam nail art kit. The Bloom 5 also has a lighter blue called Baby Blues, but I wanted a dark and dramatic shade so the glitter would stand out more. Prepare to be glitterfied!

After I applied the Varsity Blue color to my nails, I let it dry completely. Then using a toothpick, I added a dot of Salon Perfect Crystal Clear topcoat to my ring finger. Then using the same toothpick I grabbed a gold diamond shaped glitter piece from the glitter pot and applied it to the nail. It was really easy to continue this and create the accent of a vertical line of gold diamond shaped glitters. I did the same for the round silver pieces on my middle finger.

Then I added a thin line of Crystal Clear on the edge of my index finger and pinky. I dipped my finger into the pots of fine glitter. After I let it dry for a couple of minutes, I used the brush from the kit and brushed the excess glitter off. (Here's a word of advice from experience... If you blow on your nail to get it to dry quicker... make sure the glitter pot isn't behind your nail. You can just imagine the glitter in the air. It looked like fairies were dusting me with pixie dust!)

I topped it off with a coat of Crystal Clear. I love this dramatic look.

Salon Perfect Neon Pop duo and Neon Collision Nail Art Kit

Thursday, May 15, 2014

Salon Perfect introduces Bloom in Color, a collection of nail art essentials including 2-packs of nail polish in the hottest shades, 3-pack nail art liners, and nail art kits. And I am excited to be able to share some of these duos and nail art kits with you!

For this look I used the Neon Pop Duo and Neon Collision nail art kit.

Salon Perfect Neon Pop duo and Neon Collision Nail Art Kit

I started with Haute Pink, which is - believe it or not - hot pink. I used two coats of this gleaming neon. As with most true neon shades, it dries to a semi-matte finish. Then I added an accent to the side of my nails with Summer Escape. It's a true neon orange!

Then I added a stripe of Salon Perfect Crystal Clear top coat on the dividing line. I let it dry until it was tacky and dipped my nails in the Neon Collision glitter pots. The hardest part was that my entire nail didn't fit in the glitter pot very well. But with a shift of the contents I was able to finish the entire nail. I pressed down on the crystals and ensured they were set in the wet polish. I allowed it to dry for a couple of minutes and used the brush that come with the kit to brush the loose crystals off of the nail.

This creates a sugary texture to your nails. If you don't want the texture, you can add top coat.

I want to show you how bright the crystals are against a white polish. These have an extra helping of crystals as I didn't wait long for the clear polish to dry. But look how bright and festive they show up against white!

Salon Perfect Studs, Stones and black, white duo

Salon Perfect introduces Bloom in Color, a collection of nail art essentials including 2-packs of nail polish in the hottest shades, 3-pack nail art liners, and nail art kits. And I am excited to be able to share some of these duos and nail art kits with you!

Let's start with the basic black and white duo. And of course, these classic colors need something to make them pop - so I used the Studs and Stones nail art kit with it.

I started with Sugar Cube, which is a white polish. The first coat went on a little streaky. But I never expect much from the first coat of polish - most require at least two coats. The second coat evened it out quite nicely. Then I applied two stripes of Oil Slick, which is a great cream black polish. I will show you individual swatches of these polishes in a later post.

Then I applied a coat of the Salon Perfect Crystal Clear top coat. I waited a few seconds and then began applying the stones from the nail art kit. The Studs and Stones nail art kit has a great rhinestone picker-upper (yep, technical term here) that works great. On the smaller gold studs I used a wet toothpick to place the studs.

Choose from metallic and matte glitter lacquers, rich creams, and special effects top coats. Whether you’re a sweetheart or a saucy tart, Salon Perfect® has enough Love, Lashes and Lacquer to help warm even the coldest heart.

The formula on these is nice. They have an even and smooth application. Each swatch is shown with two coats and a top coat of Seche Vite, unless otherwise noted.

Let's take a look.

He’s With Me! – is an amped up metallic red micro-glitter. I love the depth the micro-glitter gives to the polish.

He's with me!

In Love – is a vibrant, amazing, bright pink cream. I think this is my favorite from the collection. The shade of pink is stunningly crisp.

Cosmic Black – is a gorgeous black and silver multi-dimensional glitter. I think it is best suited as a top coat. It is shown here over He's With Me. There was no fishing for glitter required for this polish.
