OPI SoftShades Collection swatches, review, bridal nail art

Wednesday, April 29, 2015

OPI, is celebrating the lighter side of nail color with The SoftShades Collection. This collection of blushes, nudes, and matte shades delivers rich, true-to-bottle color with just a few coats, even in the lightest hues. I'm excited to be able to share these with you. These shades simply scream "wedding" to me. These polishes are perfect for a walk down the aisle or an everyday soft and subtle look. I used one of these sheer polishes to create a stunning bridal nail art look.

So let's take a look at these sheer polishes.

Western-themed stamped nail art

Monday, April 27, 2015

I created some western-themed nail art for an event I attended and I love it. Saturday night my husband and I attended a fundraiser/dinner for Cheyenne Frontier Days. If you haven't heard of Cheyenne Frontier Days - well, it's huge. The events surrounding the "Daddy of 'Em All" occur year round and my husband and I have been volunteers forever.

I used my new found stamping courage and set to work. I used OPI Alpine Snow for the base and then made a gradient using OPI Fly and Elevation Polish Thunder Basin from the Wyoming the Wild collection.

Then I stamped the barbwire using BundleMonster image plate XL 21 and the boots and horse using Konad S5.

The color theme definitely looks western and the stamping just adds to the look.

I think I am going to have to use my stamps a little more because I love how this turned out. What do you think?

All of the products were purchased by me except for Elevation Polish Thunder Basin, which was sent to me for an honest review. All opinions are my own. Please note that computer monitors may display colors differently.

OPI Infinite Shine swatches, review (partial collection)

Friday, March 6, 2015

I have six of OPI's Infinite Shine Collection to share with you today.

OPI Infinite Shine Gel Effects Lacquer System, offers the rich color, intense shine and lasting wear of gels – without the need for LED-light curing or soak-off removal. There are 30 shades (plus a primer base coat and gloss top coat) to choose from. These gel effect polishes utilize a three-step system to deliver a high-shine classic crème finish for nails that lasts up to 10 days.
Infinite Shine is applied via a three-step system;
  • First, apply Infinite Shine Primer (Step 1) to prevent staining and increase lacquer durability.
  • Next, paint two thin, even coats for richly-pigmented, vivid color.
  • Finally, finish with Infinite Shine Gloss (Step 3), which features a state-of-the-art gel polymer formula that cures in natural light. Product can be removed easily remover; no soaking is required.
Let's take a look at six of the shades. These polishes applied well. The directions say to shake them well. However, I just gave them a good roll instead. I applied Infinite Shine Primer, the Infinite Shine Polish and then the Infinite Gloss. Make sure to wait a couple of minutes before you apply the top coat. On a couple of them I rushed it a bit and retained a bit of the polish color on the top coat brush. These polishes are a lot more glossy than they look in the photos. They really do have an amazing shine.

In Pursuit of Purple is a summery lilac shade. The formula is great. I applied two coats for this swatch.

OPI Infinite Shine - In Pursuit of Purple

Maintaining My Sand-ity is a sandy shade of nude. This definitely makes me think of the beach. I can almost feel the warmth of the sand now. I used three coats for this swatch.

OPI Infinite Shine - Maintaining My Sand-ity

No Stopping Me Now is a vibrant orange toned creme polish. I used two coats for this swatch. This color is amazing and is sure to add a pop of color to any ensemble.

OPI Infinite Shine - No Stopping Me Now

Set in Stone is a gorgeous rich deep brown shade that is reminiscent of natural stone. The name on this one intrigues me as my personal saying is "Polish isn't set in stone... which just means we can change it more often." With this polish, you can keep your mani for up to 10 days. I used two coats for this swatch.

OPI Infinite Shine - Set in Stone

She Went On And On And On is a vibrant coral shade. This spirited polish will provide color and attitude. This is two coats.

OPI Infinite Shine - She Went On And On And On

Tanacious Spirit is a wonderful shade of... well tan. This nude shade is perfect for work or play. This is two coats with a top coat.

OPI Infinite Shine - Tanacious Spirit

These polishes provided great coverage, although I did have to use three coats on a couple of them. One word of caution - if you want to use them for nail art a top coat will smear them.

There are 24 more shades, so you will definitely find a color to fit your mood and style.

Infinite Shine products feature a proprietary formula and each bottle includes OPI’s exclusive ProWide™ Brush for the ultimate in application. OPI Infinite Shine Gel Effects Lacquer System are available at professional salons, including Beauty Brands, beautybrands.com, Chatters, Dillard’s, Regis, ULTA and ulta.com for $12.50 ($14.95 CAN).
These polishes were sent to me for an honest review. All opinions are my own. Please note that computer monitors may display colors differently.

Pineapples Have Peelings Too!

This glitter polish has multiple shapes and colors of glitter swimming in an shimmery yellow gold base. This one just doesn't do anything for me. But the glitters applied pretty well. I think I just don't like the base color. I don't think it does much for the glitter. This is three coats with a top coat.

13 Days of January Nail Art Challenge: Complement and Contrast

Monday, January 26, 2015

Today's post is the "complement and contrast" theme for the 13 Days of Nail Art Challenge.

This challenge has been fun and has made me create nail art looks that I wouldn't normally create.

For this one though I created a simple mani. Just a few swipes of a nail art brush.

I started off with OPI Pompeii Purple. I love this deep, shimmery shade. Then I added contrasting lines and dots with OPI Alpine Snow and OPI... Eurso Euro. Sometimes simple is a good thing. I like the overall look of this mani.

Nail art: Make a scene for Halloween

Thursday, October 30, 2014

Tomorrow is Halloween! What better way to haunt the day than with creepy nail art? This fun nail art has a few different elements: A haunted house, a ghost, spooky trees and a few unknown sets of eyes looking on.

I used OPI Plugged in Plum for the base color. Then I added a few dry strokes of OPI Unforgreta-bly Blue and Cozu-melted in the sun for a little depth. The actual designs were created using acrylic paints.

I used China Glaze Matte Magic for this one. I like this because you can see the details just a little better.

Autumn - love it or leaf it

Autumn is here! Boots, sweaters, scarves... they are so much fun to wear. So to celebrate the changing of the seasons, I had to try and recreate the sparkling, crisp colors on the trees with some nail art.

The Aspen trees in my front yard are starting to change colors. Vivid red, yellow and orange shades grace the quaking trees. Tidbit - Did you know that researchers claim that an Aspen Grove is the largest living organism on the planet? Aspen trees, or aspen clones, are connected to each other underground and aboveground – creating a large biomass. OK, enough of science class... Let's get to the nail art.

Autumn tree nail art

For this nail art, I used OPI nail polish, I started with a base color of "Don't Bossa Nova Me Around" and added a coat of "Ski Slope Sweetie" for a shimmery canvas. Then I added splotches of A Woman's Prague-ative," in a rough circular area at the top of each nail. I added small dabs of autumn colors using "DS Indulgence," "DS Luxurious," and "I Just Can't Cope-acabana."

You can use just about any colors you want. You just want the shades to mingle together to form an abstract show of leaves.

I used brown acrylic paint for the tree trunks and branches. Then I added some very fine loose gold holographic glitter to the leaf areas of the trees. It seems to give it an extra boost of dimension.

I topped it off with a coat of HK Girl. I am pleased with the results. You just can't really go wrong with anything abstract.

Dry marble nail art with a nail art brush

Wednesday, August 20, 2014

I have tried dry marbles before. Usually with a toothpick or needle to drag through the wet polish. But I am a bit too heavy handed and I am never happy with the results. So I decided to try one using a nail art brush. I was going to do more of an overall swirl, but after dragging the brush through once, I decided I kind of liked it that way.

I started with a base coat of OPI "Do You Have This Color in Stock-holm." I applied the second coat rather thickly and then I had to move quickly. While that was still wet, I added dots of "Can't Afjord Not To" and "Suzi Has a Swede Tooth." These OPI polishes are all from the new Nordic Collection. I would be remiss if I didn't tell you that there is a giveaway for the entire collection and all the swatches can be seen there as well.

Dry marble nail art.
OK, back to the nail art at hand... Still moving at a fast pace, I used a striping brush that I have snipped most of the bristles off. I ran the brush through the middle of each dot and finished by adding "swooshes" of colors next to it. I am going to have to try this one again. I like the color contrast. And if I used reds, pinks and whites it would be perfect for Valentine's Day.

Because the coat of purple polish was thick and I added the dots when it was still wet, it took a while to dry. I waited patiently until I was confident that it was dry enough to add a top coat of Seche Vite.

While I was going for another look, I am quite happy with this "accidental" look.

These polishes were purchased by me.

OPI Nordic Collection swatches and a giveaway

Monday, August 18, 2014

The Nordic Collection is OPI's newest collection - 12 vibrant and dramatic shades that were inspired by the diversity of the Nordic region. There's sure to be something in here for every trend setting woman. I knew I had to have this collection when it was released. And the good news is that I have another collection for a lucky reader!

The formulas were superb - as is the the case with most OPI polishes I have tried. They apply smoothly and dry to a high gloss shine. The swatches below are shown with two coats and no top coat unless I mention otherwise.

Take a look and then make sure to enter the giveaway.

Going My Way or Norway? is a soft camel brown creme polish. It reminds me of toffee. This nude shade is perfect for nights by the fire or shopping trips to the mall.

OPI with a Nice Finn-ish is a frosty golden shimmer polish. I don't normally like the frosty finishes. But I like this one more than I thought I would. It did leave brush marks - but they evened out pretty nicely after the polish dried.
