Essie Winter Collection - glamour at its finest

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

The Essie Winter collection is wonderful. I realize many Spring collections are coming out but it is still Winter here and will be for quite a while. Last night the temperatures dipped to 16 below and that wasn't even the wind chill. So it will be a while before I can get Spring fever.

These colors are gorgeous. The formula is great. The price is affordable.

Six stunning colors make this collection a hit for Winter or any time of the year.

Let's move on to the swatches.

Beyond Cozy - is a glitter infused gold metallic polish. This polish applies wonderfully. Two coats provided wonderful coverage.

Let it snow! Snowflake nail art

Wednesday, December 19, 2012

I watched millions of fluffy white snowflakes swirl their way down to the ground last night. They formed about a nine inch soft thick blanket across the ground.

From my view inside a nice warm house they looked gorgeous so I decided to recreate a snowflake inspired manicure. I saw this lovely nail art that Pinked Polish sported on her nails and I decided I had to do the same concept.

I used a coat of Zoya Purity for the base color and then topped it off with Essie Tennis Corset. That created the soft, glistening canvas I wanted to capture.

Then I used Color Club Halo Hues "Blue Angel" and a nail art brush to create different size snowflakes on my nails. I was amazed how well the blue holographic polish showed against the white background.

I have to say I love the final look of this nail art. What I didn't love was that white fluffy stuff creating a three-foot drift in my driveway. I also don't love how the cold dry weather is making my hands dry and chapped. But I have an amazing hand cream to share with you soon. I can't wait to try it.

Gold roses inspired by Robin Moses

Saturday, September 8, 2012

I love Robin Moses nail art. She makes it look oh so easy. I saw this manicure she did and I had to try it. I am not even going to attempt to do a tutorial. You can see her YouTube video here.

It was easier than I thought it would be. But mine isn't as pretty as hers - even though I like the final result. My rose doesn't look exactly like a rose.

I used Essie Raise Awareness for the pink base and Zoya Richelle and Jinx for the gold colors.

Random Essie swatches

Monday, September 3, 2012

I found some wonderful Essie polishes at TJ Maxx. Essie polish is a great polish. Some are thinner than others but most of these had an amazing formula. They have a fast dry time and a high gloss shine.

There are swatches of seven Essie polishes below so let's get right to it.

Your Hut or Mine is a wonderful rose color with shimmer. You can see a little of the shimmer in the bottle.  This is two coats.

Essie - deals and swatches

Monday, August 6, 2012

While bargain shopping at TJ Maxx I stumbled across (okay, maybe I went looking for them.) some Essie polishes for $3.99.

I hastily grabbed a few of them and bee-lined my way to the cash register. I am quite pleased with them. Here are three of my bargain Essies. I hope you enjoy the swatches. By the way my TJ Maxx still has lots of Essie polish although the colors are quite picked over now.

All of the swatches are with two coats and no top coat.

Essie Antique Rose - this was one that didn't look that great in the bottle to me. But oh my - this color is positively stunning. The name actually describes the color quite well. It is a classy color with lots of shimmer and shine. I really think this has become one of my favorites.

Essie Super Bossa Nova is a wonderful, highly pigmented bright pink with tiny granules of shimmer and shine.

Essie Wild Thing is a deep rich wine color with small multi colored glitter floating through out the bottle. The color of polish without the glitter is stunning. With the glitter it is mesmerizing.

Essie polishes have always pleased me. But hey, at this price they make me ecstatic.

Checkerboard scotch tape mani

Friday, May 11, 2012

I haven't sported a scotch tape mani in a while so I was looking forward to doing something special.

Well, after what seemed like hours pulling one polish out just to look at it and put it back again I finally decided on Essie "Smooth Sailing" and Deborah Lippmann "Dancing in the Sheets."

These colors are both stunning and would be delightful on their own.

I applied Essie "Smooth Sailing" as a base color. Let me tell you. . . I was tempted to stop with just the base coat. Smooth Sailing is completely mesmerizing on its own.

Then I applied a coat of Seche Vite Fast Dry top coat to protect my polish from the tape. And of course to make it dry faster.

Then I used scotch tape to mark off the first checkerboard square. Don't laugh at my tape. It was on clearance and I think I like it better than clear tape. It makes it much easier for me to see where my tape line is.

Essie Smooth Sailing.
If you try the scotch tape method don't forget to put the tape on the back of your hand or wrist and remove it a couple of times to get a lot of the adhesive off of the tape.

Then I applied a coat of Dancing in the sheets on the area I had taped off and as soon as I was finished painting the polish on I pulled the tape off. I did this on each nail and then applied another coat of Seche Vite.

I taped off the other checkerboard and repeated the steps. One thing that makes it easier is to stop the tape at your cuticle line. This keeps the tape flat on your nail and makes the line cleaner.

I finished off with yet another coat of Seche Vite (I really need to buy stock) and I was finished. . .  Instant nail art!

Finger Paints "Color Inside the Lines" with gold accents

Tuesday, May 1, 2012

Sorry it has been a while since I have updated. I have had some family emergencies.

Let me just jump to the wonderful Finger Paints color I used. Finger Paints "Color Inside the Lines" is an amazing, vibrant, gorgeous pink. The application is great. Two coats provided amazing coverage.

Then I added a gold line using Sinful Colors "Pot O Gold" Nail Art polish. The I used Essie "Cosmo's PSS Shimmer" on the tip. It is much more pretty in real life than in these photos.

The brush in the Sinful Colors "Pot O Gold" is phenomenal. It is truly a nail art brush.

Essie's "Cosmo's PSS Shimmer" is an amazing burst of gold shimmers and applies wonderfully.

Essie Sure Shot - It's sure for me!

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

While at Walgreens yesterday I saw Essie Sure Shot. Well this polish has been calling my name for a while Every time I walked by it I could swear I heard it. So I finally gave into temptation and bought it.

I am not disappointed! A vibrant shade of pink which gleams and dances with color. It has a flawless, smooth application. I really think I could have managed with one coat. The pictures below are with two coats.

Then of course I had to add dots. I just can't seem to leave anything alone. I used China Glaze "Sexy in the City." I really like the combination of colors. I wanted bright and springy and that is exactly what I got!

Essie "Sure Shot" is a staple for your polish collection.
