Today's post is the first of several. Salon Perfect has put together a great St. Patrick's Day Collection. Four of the polishes are from the core line, and two of the polishes can only be obtained if you win a giveaway! They are custom-blended* polishes just for this giveaway. In other words, you can only own them if you win them. And the great news is -- twenty Set in Lacquer readers will win this St. Patrick's Day Collection. Yes, you read that right... 20 winners!

You can enter the giveaway here

But in the meantime, let's look at a couple of the polishes. I created some simple nail art using Loopy Lime. I love this neon lime shade. It has the perfect bit of shimmer.

Salon Perfect Loopy Lime

Then I added one of the custom-blended "only-own-it-if-you-win-it" glitters on my index nail. This is "Luck of the Irish." On the ring finger I added a wide diagonal stripe (I used KBShimmer's straight line nail vinyls to help) of Salon Perfect "Gold Leaf." The small shamrock was created using Loopy Lime.

Here's a closeup of Luck of the Irish. This clear based top coat has small green glitters and larger flakes of gold. It is perfect for St. Patrick's Day.

I am going to have fun with this collection. Stay tuned for more swatches and nail art.

Zoya Delight Collection for Spring 2015: swatches, review

Tuesday, February 24, 2015

Zoya has released the Delight Collection. This set of six spring shades will help you welcome the change in seasons.

Zoya polishes are one of my favorites. The formula is usually spot on and the colors are trendy and fashion-forward. This collection is no exception. Delight has three creme polishes and three shimmer polishes, so there is sure to be at least one for everyone's taste.

Let's take a look.

Eden is a vibrant and girly bubblegum pink creme shade. This color will be sure to provide a splash of color and will be great worn on its own or in your nail art creations. This is three coats with a top coat.

Lillian is a gorgeous subtle aquamarine blue creme polish. This shade will be perfect for those sun-kissed days. This is three coats with a top coat.

Tiana is a soft pistachio green creme polish. This soft green will complement those spring wardrobe choices. This is three coats with a top coat.

Daisy is a sunny shimmery lemon shade. The blue-toned shimmer adds a tremendous depth. This color will look perfect on the beach, at the pool or on any outing. Let the sun shine in. This is three coats with no top coat.

Leslie is a fun lavender shimmer polish. The turquoise shimmer highlights the lavender tone perfectly. This is three coats with no top coat.

Zoya Leslie

Rayne is an electric aqua blue shimmer polish. The turquoise shimmer adds depth and an amazing flash to this gorgeous spring shade. This is three coats with no top coat.

Zoya Rayne

This is my favorite collection that Zoya has released in a while. I love the spring shades, and the shimmer polishes are stunning. I did need three coats for opacity. But all-in-all this collection is a winner for me.

These polishes are available for $9 each. For more color information, or to purchase these polishes, visit the Zoya website. Follow Zoya on Facebook for current information and new releases.

Pahlish Sweethearts Collection: swatches, review

Thursday, February 19, 2015

Pahlish is relaunching their Sweethearts Collection tomorrow, Friday, February 20, 2015. This gorgeous limited-edition, five-polish collection is sure to have something to please everyone.

This collection is inspired by Sweethearts Conversation Heart candy and the actual phrases imprinted on the candy and are sure to put you in a sweet mood.

I had no issues with application. I used three thin coats for each swatch. I also applied a generous coat of top coat for a glassy shine.

Let's take a look. These photos were taken in artificial light as the sun has decided to hide when I am home.

Be True is a pale gold linear holographic with metallic gold micro-flakes with iridescent pink and violet sparks. This metallic gold is stunning and has a true gold sheen to it.

Dear One is a lavender purple linear holographic with gold shimmer and gold micro-flakes. The gold micro-flakes complement the soft purple completely.

Let's Kiss is a neon scattered holographic with hot pink, violet-blue and violet-pink micro-flake shimmer. This is my kind of pink. This neon shade will add a vibrant pop of color to your nails. The shimmer and shine add a tremendous depth and dimension.

Only You is a soft rose, almost salmon, pink linear holographic with rose-gold and metallic gold micro-flakes. The soft rose gold flakes add an amazing dimension to the polish. Yet, they don't distract from the soft color.

Zoya Satin Collection for 2015: swatches, review

Tuesday, February 17, 2015

Zoya released their Satin Collection for 2015. These soft neutral colors are sure to be a palate cleanser.

These soft shades also have a soft finish. They aren't quite matte and they aren't quite glossy. So is it semi-matte or semi-glossy. That's kind of the half-full or half-empty debate. I do wish they had more of a matte finish. But they are still pretty colors.

Let's take a look. These are all show with two coats of polish. These satin polishes are designed to wear with no base or top coat. So that is how I am showing them. You need to let the polish dry completely before applying another coat, which adds to the application time. But if you don't wait, you will get a lot of dragging when you apply it. Also, I found that it applies much easier if I am a bit heavy-handed with the application.

Ana is a soft toasty almond creme polish. It's a great nude polish for everyday wear.

Zoya Ana

Brittany is a soft rosy mauve creme polish. This soft, subtle polish is suitable for wearing almost anywhere.

Zoya Brittany

Leah is a taupe creme polish with just a tinge of lavender. I love this shade of polish.

Zoya Leah

Rowan is a soft suede taupe shade of creme polish. This is one of my favorites of the collection.

Zoya Rowan

Sage is a mossy sage green creme polish. This is a gorgeous shade for the spring season.

Zoya Sage

Tove is a soft slate gray creme with a slight hint of dusty blue. I love this shade. It's subtle, yet has a great color.

Zoya Tove

All in all the shades are pretty. I do wish they were either completely glossy, or completely matte.

These polishes are available for $9 each. For more color information, or to purchase these polishes, visit the Zoya website. Follow Zoya on Facebook for current information and new releases.

UK Wildcats are on fire: inspired nail art

Sunday, February 15, 2015

The Kentucky Wildcats are on fire! The team is my all-time favorite team. I grew up in Kentucky and hearing the 'Cats on the radio or watching them on TV was the norm.

They are 25-0 this year and I swear I can hear the whoops and hollers all the way in Wyoming. I have created UK nail art in the past. But with their amazing winning streak right now I had to create another.

I used Elevation Polish Lake of the Isles for the blue and China Glaze White on White for the white. I usually just do paw prints. But this year I found an alphabet set of scrapbook punches - so I created the UK decals with those. If you want to know more about punch decals, take a look at this tutorial.

I love the final look. Of course the letters aren't the right font at all. But I still love it.

I can't wait to follow the Wildcats in the next few weeks.

Digital Dozen Day 5: Stripes and hearts nail art

Friday, February 13, 2015

Today is Day five - the final day - of the Digital Dozen Patterns on Patterns theme. Being a part of the Digital Dozen has challenged me to try different ideas and designs. Of course, don't be surprised to see a lot of floral designs mixed in when ever I get a chance.

Today is a different look for me. I used the black Esmaltes Da Kelly tinted polish from the Soap Bubbles collection for my base color. These polishes are translucent, which is what makes it great to use them in nail art. But it's the first time I have used one in a base color. I used two coats so it wasn't too sheer. Then I added black lines using Colors by Llarowe "Vincent." Fancy Gloss "A Sailor's Love" was used to create the hearts.

I love the way it turned out. It was extremely hard to capture in photos though. But I recommend the technique. The opacity difference of the polishes make it interesting - and the pop of red added a bit of flair.

Make sure to take a look at the other amazing Pattern on Pattern looks by the talented ladies of the Digital Dozen.

Climbing the walls for Digital Dozen Day 4: Floral nail art

Thursday, February 12, 2015

Today is Day four of the Digital Dozen Patterns on Patterns theme. I had a couple of designs finished, but I did this one last night and I liked it so much I had to use it. I am having so much fun with this theme.

I started off with a base coat of Flynn and then added teakwood alcohol ink using a small portion of a cosmetic wedge. Then I used acrylic paints to draw the lines on the brick wall and then the vines and flowers. If you haven't noticed, I am partial to floral nail art. Flowers are so forgiving to create.

Now that spring is around the corner - well maybe a long corner, but it's within sight - I will be doing more fun floral manis.

Darling Diva St. Patrick's Day Collection swatches

Wednesday, February 11, 2015

The creators at Darling Diva have done it again. The release of the St. Patrick's Day Collection is Friday, February 3, 2015 and these polishes are based on limericks.

There once was a polish maker named Carrie,
Who liked to play on the prairie.
Her sweetheart was Rick,
And he had a quite a trick...

Alright ladies, get your mind out of the gutter. He has quite a trick of naming polishes.

OK, I digress. Back to the polish.

This five-polish collection is all green and is sure to give you nails of a leprechaun. Let's take a look. The sun decided to stay behind the clouds, so these photos are taken in artificial lighting.

A Newlywed Couple From Paris is a linear mid-toned green holographic with holographic shimmer and stunning flakes. It has an amazing gold shimmer to it. This is two coats with a top coat of Darling Diva Pryzmatic PETC. I had no issues with application. This is the perfect leprechaun green.

Ever Heard of Naughty Wife from St. Paul? is a stunning hunter green linear holographic polish. I love the holo sheen of this polish and the deep green is phenomenal. This is two coats with a top coat of Darling Diva Pryzmatic PETC. I had no issues with application.

In the Garden of Eden Sat Eve is full of leprechaun magic. It is cram packed with green and gold micro glitters. The sparkle is mesmerizing and completely a Type A personality. There is no shyness in this polish. This is two coats with a top coat of Darling Diva Pryzmatic PETC. I had no issues with application.

On the White Cliffs of Dover Sat a Poet is a bright, medium green polish that is simply amazing. It has color shifting flakes, gold flakes and holographic shimmer. I think this is my favorite of the bunch. It's bright enough to be the star of the show, but the flakes and shimmer tone it down a bit. This is two coats with a top coat of Darling Diva Pryzmatic PETC. I had no issues with application.

There Once Was a Man from Nantucket is a color shifting emerald green polish with color shifting flakes. It is on the thinner side to allow the flakes to show their full glory. It can be built to opacity - this is three coats - or layered over another polish. I had no issues with application.
