Digital Dozen: Fairy Tale nail art

Tuesday, January 13, 2015

It's day two of the Digit-al Dozen. And if you haven't seen... the theme is fairy tales. I decided to create a mani based on Jorinda and Joringel from the Brothers Grimm.

You see, there was an old woman who was really a witch. In the day she changed into a cat or an owl. In any man came close to her castle, he would be stilled until she released him. But if a fair maiden came close, she was changed into a bird and placed in a cage in the castle.

A maiden - Jorinda - was betrothed to Joringel and they were walking too close to the castle one night. Joringel was frozen in place and Jorinda was transformed into a bird. The night moon cast up on Joringel and he was released.

A nightingale flew around him and told him of a magic flower that would release the fair maidens from the bird form they were living in. He set about the lands to find this magic flower and returned to the castle. With a flash of the flower Jorinda was transformed back to her original beautiful form. They released the rest of the maidens from the spell and then used the flower on the witch. Now she no longer had the power to cast the spell and could not return into her daytime owl form.

For this mani I used a base color of China Glaze White on White and then sponged on Barielle Panama Pina Colada. This gave a hint of yellow to the base without being overly yellow. Then I stamped flowers and colored them in with Esmaltes Da Kelly Soap Bubbles polishes. The owl was created using acrylic paints.

What do you think? Check out the other fairy tale manis created by the talented ladies in the Digital Dozen below.
