Far East Floral Nail Art

Tuesday, September 30, 2014

Holo, florals and elegance come together in this rich nail art look. Darling Diva's "The Alchemist" from the WitchEE collection simply screamed for a leading part in a far east inspired nail art look.

The Alchemist is a rich cherry red linear holo polish. It is luxurious and stunning. You can see the full WitchEE Collection and swatches here.

For this look I used two coats of Alchemist for the base color. Then I used black and white acrylic paint for the flowers and leaves. If you didn't know before this post - I simply love creating floral nail art. I can't help myself.

I added accents on the flowers with Darling Diva "Cast a Spell," which is an amazing autumn orange holographic nail polish. It just seemed to add dimension and detail.

The Lacquer Legion: Crisp - Autumn leaves

Monday, September 29, 2014

For September's Lacquer Legion theme - "Crisp," I stuck with the traditional version of Fall  - Autumn leaves. This time of year the leaves are at their most brilliant. The vivid oranges, reds, and even greens intermingle into a dazzling show of how beautiful nature can really be.

For this mani, I used a base color of Milani Black Swift. I added abstract leaves using Darling Diva "The Alchemist," which is a brilliant holographic red; Darling Diva "Cast a Spell," which is a perfect holographic autumn orange; and Darling Diva "The Witching Hour," which is a stunning holographic deep green shade. You can see swatches of the full Darling Diva collection here.

I love how the holographic polishes appear jewel-like against the black creme base.

I finished off with a coat of HK Girl top coat.

Glisten & Glow Studio 54 Collection - swatches, review

Sunday, September 28, 2014

I have a fun, slightly textured, micro-glitter polish collection for you today - Studio 54, by Glisten & Glow. The great aspect of these polishes is the versatility. They can be worn on their own as a slightly textured polish, with top coat to completely even them out and provide a glossy finish, or over a base color.

They applied easily and the glitter covers evenly and rests flat against the nail.

Let's take a look at these glittery sensations. I used three coats for each swatch and I had no issues with application on any of them.

Dancing on Star Dust is the most unique mixture of the collection. It contains a perfect balance of lavender, pink, green, blue, black, and gold micro-glitters in a slightly violet tinted base. No one color dominates the mixture, making this one standout from the others in this collection. It's confetti on your nails.

At the Door @ 54 is jam packed with magenta micro-glitters. It also has pink, gold, blue, and silver micro-glitters in a magenta pink toned base. This shade is sure to be an eye-catcher with its bright appearance. The colors complement each other and give it a classy, yet inspired look.

Rubell's Bus Boys has primarily red-toned coral and orange micro-glitters in a similarly tinted base. It also has a beautiful balance of blue, gold, and silver micro-glitters as well. It isn't quite as red as my photos show. The red-toned glitters seem to jump out when I am taking the photo and photo-bomb the shot. It does flash red, but appears more salmon in real life.

The Moon & The Spoon is my favorite of the collection. It has mostly blue micro-glitters, along with gold, red, green, and silver micro-glitters in a slightly tinted blue base. The contrasting colors in this one provide a unique and very noticeable contrast. The overall look is very pleasing to the eye.

Gettin' Dirty with Disco Sally is packed with bright pink micro-glitters in a clear base. The addition of gold, red, pink, black and fuchsia micro-glitters create the perfect sparkling super girly mix. It's bright and stunning.

Darling Diva Nightbird sings in holo

Saturday, September 27, 2014

Do you ever see a polish on someone and immediately think "I must have that!" That's exactly what happened with this sultry, mesmerizing polish - Nightbird, by Darling Diva. I saw this on Lulu's, from Elevation Polish, toes at the llarowe grand opening. And I knew I must have it - NOW.

So off I went to Darling Diva's online store and it magically appeared in my cart. I love when that happens.

Let's take a look at this amazing polish in the sun.

Nightbird is a deep indigo blue holographic (emphasis on the holographic) polish that leans ever so slightly toward purple. It is pure magic on my nails. I used two coats of Nightbird and a top coat of Darling Diva's Pryzmatic PETC. I was at an outdoor event today and I had to keep stepping into the sun to gaze at the holographic prisms and colors on my nails.

Nail it with craft scissors!

Friday, September 26, 2014

The Barielle Me Couture Collection is stunning; the rich shades screamed for nail art. And who am I to argue with that? So I got an idea in my head and had to try it. I like the end result. The best part is - it looks difficult but is oh-so-easy!

Craft scissor nail art

I used almost all of the shades in the Me Couture Collection to create this nail art. (You can see each shade and swatches on this post.)

I started off with two coats of Taupe Notch. Then, using the technique in this post, I applied some of the other shades to a margarine tub lid and marbled the colors together. After it dried, I peeled it off and used craft scissors to cut strips of polish. I got the craft scissors at Michaels for $1.99.

I cut the strips to fit my nail, applied a top coat (not a quick dry top coat) and applied the strips to my nail. I finished off with another coat of top coat to seal it off and I was finished. Talk about easy!

Never be afraid to try something new on your nails. The worst thing that can happen is you don't like it. And just maybe... you will love it!

Barielle Me Couture Collection for Fall 2014 swatches, review

Wednesday, September 24, 2014

Did you know Barielle got its beginning by creating products to condition the hooves of million-dollar thoroughbred racehorses? So if those owners of those elite animals trusted the product I think I can too. Actually, Barielle is one of my favorite brands. It's formula is usually spot on. The Me Couture collection has six gorgeous, rich shades.

The Me Couture Collection for Fall 2014 embraces the high fashion colors for the season. It has a sophisticated palette combination of retro and intense shades.

Let's take a look! These swatches are shown with two coats and no top coat.

Berry Posh is a creamy rich fuchsia shade. It is a deep shade that will look perfect with sweater and boots; but will be perfect for any season. It dries to a high-gloss shine. I had no application issues with this shade.

Boho Chic is described as a creamy deep, sea green shade. Although, I am not sure that description is spot on. But quite honestly, I can't think of another way to describe it - except that it is rich and luscious. I had no application issues with this polish.

Moda Bleu is a creamy, dark navy blue shade. I think it leans toward purple. But it dries to a high-gloss shine and is my favorite of the collection. It's definitely an eye-catcher. I had no application issues with this polish.

Taupe Notch is described as a dark taupe cream polish. I think it is more of a slate gray. Either way, it is a stunning, classic shade. I had no issues with application.

Sally Hansen Miracle Gels - long lasting gel coverage without a light

Tuesday, September 23, 2014

I have two of the Sally Hansen Miracle Gels to share with you today. They are a gel polish that doesn't need a light. They are supposed to last for up to two weeks. However, I am not able to leave it on long enough to test that theory.

I received Wine Stock and Spice Age to share with you.

These are intended to wear without a base coat. The directions say to apply two coats of color and apply the Miracle Gel Top Coat. So that's exactly what I did for these swatches. The Miracle Gel Top Coat applied well, just make sure you wait about 5 minutes before applying it. It does take a few minutes to dry, but not too long. Just make sure to be careful after application so you don't get dings.

Spice Age is a deep brown with shimmer. It is a hard shade to capture. The coverage was great and two coats supplied complete coverage. It didn't have a high gloss shine, even after the top coat. But the deep shimmer is gorgeous. It's a gorgeous fall shade.

Wine Stock is a deep, jellyish reddish wine shade. I used two coats and I wish I had applied one additional coat. The color is deep and sultry. It dries to a high-gloss shine.
