Salon Perfect - Disco Glam - 70s inspired glitter top coat collection - swatches, review

Thursday, July 31, 2014

+Salon Perfect is stepping up to the dance floor with its 70s inspired, disco-themed Disco Glam collection. This collection is bright and vibrant and full of flash, fun and glitter.

This limited edition, Top (Coat) of the Class collection is reminiscent of the disco ball and those shimmery, sparkly dance floor lights.

Let's take a look at this fun collection that is fit for a dancing queen.

Disco Ballin' is an electric blue and silver micro-glitter top coat. I love the depth it adds to the base color, Wild Blue Yonder. It's a dream to apply and will have you heading down to Funky Town in no time.

Disco Diva is a bar glitter that is infused with purple and holographic bar fibers. I have it on here over Plum Sorbet. It did take a little extra effort to apply. Just make sure to apply light coats and be patient so the fibers lay flat. But the end result is worth a little extra effort. The extra sparkle will have you doing The Hustle.

Foxy Lady is a hot pink and silver glitter top coat that has loads of disco ball sparkle. It looks great over Tickled Pink. It applied easily and evenly. This heavenly pink top coat will have you loving the night life. It's classy and chic.

Salon Perfect - Totally 80s Top Off top coats - swatches, review

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

+Salon Perfect has been kicking the polish out lately. The newest collections are dedicated to a decade and the 80s collection is, like totally, gorgeous.

There are two matte top coats in this collection. Both are bright and bold, just as the 80s were. One is even inspired by the Rubik's Cube. By the way, the Rubik's Cube turned 40 this year!

Let's move right into them. I will talk about the application of each polish separately.

Ruby's Cube is multi-color square matte glitter. This top coat applies easily and there is no fishing for glitter. The colors are bright and bold and just as spell binding as that puzzle cube called the Rubik's Cube. I applied it over a triple gradient of Salon Perfect Yowza Yellow, Wild Blue Yonder and Tickled Pink. I finished it off with a top coat of Salon Perfect Crystal Clear.

Square Pegs is a top coat that is jam packed with neon square and circular matte glitters. It did require a little bit of fishing for glitter pieces, but I usually expect that with large shaped glitters. Just be patient, turn that bottle upside down for a few minutes and proceed. I have it on here over Salon Perfect Sugar Cube.

Butterfly nail art with Elevation Polish

I haven't had time to create much nail art lately and I missed it. So I set to work to create a butterfly themed mani with floral accents.

I think I like this one! If I had to recreate it I would redo the red butterfly to match the blue one. He is rather large. But I like the overall look.

I used a base color of Alpine Snow and added a little bit of blue nail polish to break up the white. It doesn't show in the photos very well - but it's there.

Then I used Elevation Polish Bohai Sea, which is a brilliant scattered holo blue,; Darkest Storm, which is a holo navy blue; Lhasa Rooftop, which is a shimmery deep magenta red; Aconcagua, which is a rusty holo orange to make the butterflies. I outlined the butterflies with black acrylic paint and added white dots for accent. I also added dots of  Elevation Polish Tronador for additional accent.

For the flowers, I used varying shades of green acrylic paint for the leaves, and the flowers are also created with the same Elevation Polishes.

I topped it off with a coat of HK Girl (which is one of my favorite topcoats for nail art).

Salon Perfect - Nailed by the Mod Squad Collection - top coats

Tuesday, July 29, 2014

From Lana Del Rey's retro bombshell style to Zooey Deschanel's signature cat-eye look, there is no denying that mod is right on trend. The 1960s mod era introduced a more playful approach to beauty and the use of color. +Salon Perfect has introduced "Nailed by the Mod Squad Collection." And it's definitely right on trend.

These Limited Edition Top Coats will add color, texture and style to your manicure. There are three top coats in this collection. There is sure to be a top coat for your mood.

Let's take a look.

Flower Power is a 60s inspired, pastel matte glitter top coat. It has varying sizes of pink, yellow and blue round matte glitters. I love the subtle look of this top coat. It applied easily and the glitter applied relatively evenly. I applied it over a Salon Perfect Tickled Pink and Wild Blue Yonder gradient. I adore how the look came together.

Mad About Mod is a gorgeous 60s inspired, pastel matte glitter top coat. It has varying sizes of pink, yellow and ever so light lavender round matte glitters. This is my favorite of the 60s polishes. It applied well and the glitter applied relatively evenly. I applied it over a Salon Perfect Tickled Pink and Yowza Yellow gradient.

Spot On is a mod-inspired black and white matte glitter top coat. You will be seeing spots with this one. Spot On did take effort to apply. The glitter had to be fished out at times and then it took some work to apply the glitters evenly. But it wasn't too hard - It will just take a few extra seconds of time. And the final result is dramatic. I applied it over Salon Perfect Loopy Lime

Repairing a torn nail with a tea bag

I often get small chips in my nails and they aren't hard to file down. But occasionally, I get one of those deep tears that makes me cringe. I know that if I don't take care of it somehow it's going to rip... and when it does, it's going to be ugly. So I have found a repair method that works wonders! It let's me grow my nail out to a decent length without babying it.

This idea isn't mine to claim, but I do want to share it with you. I learned the tip from Nails by Ms. Lizard. Where she learned it, I just don't know. I just had to do this last night when I spied one of those deep tears on my ring finger. So let's get right into it.

You can see the start of a deep tear on the side of my nail.

So I grabbed a tea bag and a pair of scissors.

I snipped of the end of the bag and emptied the tea out of the bag. Then I cut a small square piece from the bag and grabbed the nail glue. Brush on nail glue works best. You can use the other kind, but it isn't as easy.

I applied a thin layer of nail glue to the entire side of the nail. Don't be afraid to cover a good portion of your nail with glue.

I placed the square piece of tea bag over the tear in the nail and tried to get it as close to the edge of the nail as possible. Once it grows out a bit I will actually put glue underneath the nail and wrap the tea bag around to reinforce it even more.

Take the brush from the nail glue and add glue underneath any loose edges. After I was comfortable that I had glue where I wanted it, I used an old concealer brush to press the tea bag down and brush any bubbles out. Reapply nail glue over the entire top of the tea bag piece.

I let it dry and then buffed the surface to get rid of any lumps or bumps. That's it! Apply nail polish and you have a reinforced nail with minimal cost! You can't really tell it's even there. There is a bit of glue residue near the cuticle area; but it will wear off soon. This will last for a few polish applications. It doesn't last very long for me, but with all the swatching I do, I'm not surprised. The type of remover you use will also play a part in the longevity of the repair. Acetone based remover is harsher.

I hope this tip helps you... and your tips!

Milani Color Statement - a few of the cremes - and nail art

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

Milani has released a new collection - Color Statement. And does it make a statement! It has 37 shades of polishes and I am not about to try to fit them all in one post. I have some of the cremes and nail art in this post. You can see the shimmers and metallics in this post and the glitters can be seen here. Stay tuned for more cremes!

The colors of these polishes is amazing, the formula is nice and they dry very quickly. They did dry almost too fast for nail art, but that could also be the weather. Summers are extremely dry in Wyoming in the summer. Not to mention - it could also be because of all the fans I have running in the house. I have seen some amazing nail art created with these polishes, so I am sure it is one or the other... maybe even a combination of both.

Let's take a look.

First up is a vintage, dresden-style, floral nail art look. I used Spotlight White for a base color and painted the flowers with Blue Print and Peri-wink. I love how this look is subtle and classic.

Mauving Forward is a gorgeous, mauve saturated shade of polish. This is two coats. The color is quite stunning.

Hot Pink Rose is a stunning and vibrant shade of a deep, but bright rosy pink. This is two coats. I added dots of Spotlight White and Waterfront.

nk Spot is a glossy, true black creme polish. It's perfect for a nail art base color, or as a stand-alone polish. It applies wonderfully. This is two coats.

Mango Tango is one of my favorites! Who couldn't love this shade with it's mango saturated creamy and glossy color? Put a cherry on it... it's dessert. This is two coats.

Spotlight White is the perfect, glossy, pure white cream polish. It applies well. As with a lot of white polishes, it did take an extra coat. This is three coats. This polish will be a staple for those who like a white base for nail art.

Cupcake Icing is a sweet treat of a vivid pink creme. Its stunning! This is two coats. It's bright and eye catching.

Blue Print will take care of the summer days blues. This brilliant blue is stunning and applies well in two coats.

Salon Perfect Neon POP! Collection - swatches, review

Tuesday, July 22, 2014

Salon Perfect has been oh-so-busy lately. They have released an amazing collection of neon polishes - Neon POP! And these colors truly POP!

Neon nails are the it mani for summer and Salon Perfect’s new Neon POP collection gives you 12 bright and bold shades that will surely POP.

I have several of the shades for you and I am amazed at how bright and gorgeous they are - I was expecting bright. But not this much bright!

I applied all of these over Salon Perfect Sugar Cube. It's the perfect white to make those neon colors shout. And when I say "shout," I mean they really shout loud. The formula was wonderful. Neons are often known for having a finicky application - not these. I honestly had no issues.

I posted a couple of nail art looks last week. You can see those here.

Let's take a look at the swatches. The photos don't quite capture the true neon-abilities of these polishes. All the swatches are two coats with a top coat unless I mention different.

Bermuda Baby is a vivid neon turquoise blue. I love this breath taking blue shade. It's as if the sky's intense color met with the aqua blue of the sea and combined forces to create a blue that would make an impact.

Fired Up Fuchsia is a sun-kissed neon pink with a hint of magenta to it. It's well... fuchsia. It will definitely be an eye-catcher as you carry on about your day - whether it be work, or pleasure.

Flamingo Flair isn't as bright as the others. But it's definitely brighter than this photo shows. I love this coral shade - it has the three "Cs" - classy, chic and classic.

Haute Pink is a mind-blower. Not only is it vivid and wonderful, it's also more of an orange shade. I think I would call this a deep, intense tangerine.

Loopy Lime will practically knock your socks off. This neon lime is intense, bright and breath taking. If you want bright, this is the shade for you. Normally, I am not a fan of green polish. But this one has stolen my heart.

Plum Sorbet is an oh-so-amazing bright, deep neon pink. This shade is gorgeous.

Tickled Pink is a bit softer than the others. But this subtle, yet bright baby pink will make a statement. Wear this and others will know that you have a soft side, yet still harbor a bit of attitude.

Traffic Cone will definitely stop people in their tracks. This stunning neon orange will grab attention and let people know that you are a force to be reckoned with.

Yowza Yellow is the perfect shade of yellow. It's filled with the colors of summer. Sunshine, daisies and just plain fun are evident in this bright yellow. It's much brighter that what is shown in the photo.
