Leopard print nail art

Wednesday, July 31, 2013

Fabrics are an inspiration for nail art. I have a leopard print summer blouse that I wanted to use as a basis for nail art. So I pulled out some Zoya polishes and went to work.

For the base color I used Zoya Richelle. It's a gorgeous bronze shimmer polish.

Then I used a dotting tool to create irregular spots with Zoya Ivy. It a rusty color that makes me think of fall leaves.

Then I used a nail art brush and Zoya Raven to add the incomplete lines around the spots. Leopard spots are really easy to create. They are forgiving and don't have to be perfect at all.

Fun gradient with stamping - Fab UR Nails stamping plates

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

I have a fun stamping plate to share with you. Stamping can transform a normal manicure into a work of art. This stamp is from Llarowe and has 20 large (16 x 21mm) designs and 30 small detail designs. The plate measures 9.5 x 14.5 cm.

It's the Fun IP stamping plate #5. I can't wait to show you more images from this plate.  The image transferred from the plate to the nail easily.

I haven't stamped in what seems like forever so it took me a bit to get back in the groove. But this stamp made it easy. The hardest part was picking which design to use!

I created a gradient with Zoya Whitney, Breezi and Darcy. I finished the look off with the zig zag design.

The nitty gritty of clean up - neat and tidy manicures

Sunday, July 28, 2013

Let's face it - we can have a gorgeous manicure with intricate nail art - but if it looks sloppy around the cuticles it definitely detracts from the finished look.

Does that mean you have to have steady hands and precise polish strokes around our cuticles?

Not at all. I often get polish on and around my cuticles. But it's pretty easy to clean up if you have the right tools.

Let's take a look.

Here is a photo of my nails before clean up.  I was intentionally a little messier than normal.

You will need one of the brushes and a small container of nail polish remover.

Clean up brushes and acetone

Here is one of the types of brushes you can use. This is a concealer brush from e.l.f. I picked this up at Target for around $2.

Here is the bristles on the brush. The acetone doesn't eat the bristles away on these brushes. I have tried different brushes and have pulled the brush out of the acetone just to find out the bristles were gone - completely gone. The edge on this one is getting a little ratty. It's probably time for me to grab another one.

You can also use the e.l.f. small angled brush. I really don't think I have a preference between the brushes. They both work great.

To clean up your cuticles simply dip the tip of the brush in the remover. You don't want too much remover on the brush so lightly daub it on a piece of paper or on the side of the container. Use the tip of the brush and clean up the polish around your cuticles. You can get right next to the nail with this and it make the edges clean and crisp. I use it around the base of my nail too. This makes the polish line neat and tidy. After you swipe some polish off of your cuticles wipe the brush on a paper towel or rag. I have a towel that stays on my chair. It is definitely rainbow colored now. You wipe the brush on the rag to get rid of the polish residue on the brush. If you don't you will transfer a thin film of color to your cuticles and fingers.

After clean up. This is Sally Hansen Twisted Pink.
What are your tips for a neat and tidy manicure?

It also has an added sparkle with a rainbow holo that really makes it shimmer.

Colors by llarowe - Good Fortune and This Girl Is On Fire... HELP! swatches (Photo intense)

Colors by llarowe has launched her own polish line. The ones I have tried will definitely make you sit up and take notice. I am sharing two of them with you today. One of these may have catapulted to the top of my list of favorites.

Today I have Good Fortune and This Girl Is On Fire... HELP!  And these will both be in tomorrow's (July 27) restock on llarowe.com.

Good Fortune - is a gorgeous turquoise holographic polish. It picks up the light and shines with a brilliance that is not for the faint of heart. It has a jelly-ish consistency and is opaque in two coats. This is with a topcoat of Seche Vite: but I must say it dries to a high gloss shine on its own.

Femme Fatale - Planar Anomalies swatches

Thursday, July 25, 2013

I have a deep, dark, sultry glitter polish for you today - Femme Fatale Planar Anomalies. Planar Anomalies is a complex polish that is extremely difficult to photograph. It and my camera did not play nice together at all. But it’s a murky black base with a subtle pink to green shift. This delightful dark base is swimming with an assortment of grey, black, holo, purple and teal glitters.

This is two coats of Planar Anomalies. It definitely needs a thick topcoat as it is a chunky glitter. I used a coat of Gelous and another coat of Seche Vite. That smoothed it out to my liking.

The glitter flashes with a three dimensional look and catches the light to make this polish glitzy and glam.
