OPI floral nail art

Saturday, March 30, 2013

Spring is in the air and I wanted to create some floral nail art to celebrate.  I love doing floral nail art because nothing has to be perfect. Some petals and leaves placed randomly around the nail and you have an instant spring look.

I used all OPI nail polishes for this nail art. I started with a base color of Dulce De Leche. Then using dotting tools and nail art brushes I added the flowers. I used quite a few different colors - Fly, OPI Eurso Euro, You're Such a Budapest, Hoodoo Voodoo, Fiercely Fiona, Kiss me on my Tulips and Cajun Shrimp. For the leaves I used a green striping polish.

OPI polishes are great to create nail art with as they have a great formula and dry relatively quickly.

China Glaze Hologlam Collection swatches and review - Part 1

Friday, March 29, 2013

Holographic nail polish - It's the one type of polish that can stop me in my tracks. China Glaze has released the Hologlam Collection and sent me some to review and share with you. There are 12 polishes in this collection. I am going to show them to you in three posts.

China Glaze® established itself as the leader in holographic nail lacquer with the 2007 OMG! collection, one of the most popular collections in the brands’ history. Fueled by that success and back by popular demand, China Glaze® Hologlam uses reflective, holographic particles to capture light and transform nails into amazing, ever-changing visual effects. With a strong linear finish whether indoor or shining bright in the sun, China Glaze® Hologlam bends and changes, creating an illuminated three-dimensional, traveling color effect across the nail.

Hologlam polishes are not "in your face" holographic. Which is good for those of us who want something different, yet classy enough to wear to work.

Two coats provided great opacity. But if you you have ridges make sure to apply a good ridge filling base coat before you apply Hologlam polishes. They do tend to show imperfections in the nail. I think it must be the holographic particles. Ensure that each coat is completely dry before you apply the next coat or it will drag and leave bald spots. Make sure to shake/mix the polishes very well. This will help evenly distribute the holographic particles within the polish. If you remember these things you will have a flawless application. This is not something that would keep me from purchasing these polishes - it is just something I wanted to pass on to you.

Let's move on to the swatches. I did not apply a top coat for these. Look at that shine and holo goodness!

The China Glaze® Hologlam collection features 12 futuristic shades, including:

Astro-Hot: is a soft, baby pink. The way the light brings the holographic particles to life is amazing.

Ellen Sirot's Hand Perfection treatment review

Thursday, March 28, 2013

A pure hand needs no glove to cover it. - Nathaniel Hawthorne

I was given the opportunity to try Ellen Sirot's Hand Perfection treatment and I jumped on it with both feet - and hands. . . Before I jump into the qualities of this product I want to let you know that 10 people will win this collection of hand treatments. Make sure to enter. It ends at Midnight on March 29th.

Your hands are one of the things you can see daily without looking in the mirror. Are you looking now? We are hard on our hands. Cleaning solutions, sun, and hard work take their toll on them. My hands have begun to show the results of what I have put them through. Winter in Wyoming doesn't help them either. Extreme dry weather, cold temperatures and wicked winds leave them chapped and rough at times.

Ellen Sirot's Hand Perfection seemed to ease those visible symptoms.

Ellen Sirot's Hand Perfection treatment

The Nourishing Day Cream is a 1.7 fl oz size. It only takes a pearl size amount on your hands. If you use anymore than that you are going to be rubbing it in for a while. But immediately you can feel the difference. It has SPF 15 sun protection so it actually revitalizes and protects your hands from additional damage from the sun.

The Rejuvenating Night Cream is a dream. Just use a small amount every night and the silky lotion hydrates your hands. Used in the right proportions it isn't greasy at all. Again - a pearl sized amount is all you need.

The Nail and Cuticle Treatment is my favorite of this collection of hand treatments. A click of the applicator tip and the felt tipped applicator is ready to apply the perfect amount of nail and cuticle conditioner. I love this stuff! The applicator wand makes it the perfect nail treatment to keep in your purse. It doesn't leave an oily residue behind on your hands.

My hands are moisturized and feel better than before the treatment. I think even the fine lines have been reduced because my hands are infused with this conditioning treatment.

The Hand Perfection® line consists of a Nourishing Day Cream and Revitalizing Night Cream which when used together, are clinically proven to help turn back the hands of time - guaranteed! The fragrance-free, non-greasy formulas go on smooth and absorb quickly for an invisible, weightless feel. There is also a Nail and Cuticle Treatment which is clinically proven to moisturize the cuticles and help improve the look and feel of the nail bed for an overall healthy and beautiful looking hand.

Hand Perfection Anti-Aging Hand Care products have been specifically formulated for the unique requirements of the skin on our hands. Powered by an exclusive and proprietary “RevitaStim Active Complex with Olivem-1000, Peptides and Hyaluronic Acid,” Hand Perfection visibly reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and crepiness and delivers youthful radiance, improved elasticity and fullness within just 2 weeks.

The Hand Perfection brand can be purchased at CVS, Walgreens, Albertsons, Duane Reade, Harmon and other fine stores across the country. Nourishing Day Cream with SPF 15 (SRP $14.99); Rejuvenating Night Cream (SRP $14.99); Nail and Cuticle Treatment (SRP $9.99); Combo pack which contains the Nourishing Day Cream and Rejuvenating Night Cream (SRP $24.99)

Easter nail art - dots and a chick!

I have been busy at work for a while now and I couldn't wait to relax and create some nail art!

For this I used Zoya polishes. I love Zoya for nail art. It's quick drying and easy to apply.

Easter nail art using dotting tools and Zoya Polishes

I used a base color of Zoya Blu. Then I used dotting tools and dotted Perrie, Wednesday, Breezi, Creamy, and Lo in perpendicular lines. I used different sized dotting tools to create dotted stripes of different sizes.

Then for the accent nail I used Lo for the "broken egg" and Creamy for the chick. I used a MASH Nails brush for these. Then I striped on Breezi and used dots of Creamy for more detail on the egg shell. I used Arizona for the beak and dotted on Raven for the eyes.

What are you putting on your nails for Easter?

Guest post from Cosmetic Sanctuary - Nerd Lacquer Entirely Unlike Tea.

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

I have a wonderful guest post from Lisa at Cosmetic Sanctuary today. She is sharing a wonderful Nerd Lacquer called Entirely Unlike Tea with us! I always enjoy her posts.

I wanted to say a HUGE Thank You to Kelly for giving me a spot to guest post today!  I was going to attempt nail art, but it wasn't working out so well - so I'll continue to leave the nail art up to Kelly!

For today's post I'm going to show you NerdLacquer Entirely Unlike Tea!  I just received this polish in the mail this afternoon as an early birthday gift from my boyfriend!  I hesitated on buy this last December/January and kicked myself for it because right after was when NerdLacquer went on hiatus for a bit!  So you bet I was quick to try to snatch this puppy up this time around!

NerdLacquer Entirely Unlike Tea is from the Hitchhiker's Guide collection!  It's a gorgeous neutral polish with a pinky/purple iridescent shimmer to it!  There are also various sized silver hex glitters scattered throughout.

I'm so glad NerdLacquer opened again!  I love so many of her polishes (including this one) but I just couldn't justify paying 50-80 bucks on a used bottle!

I only used two coats for this photo and a glossy top coat (Dazzle Dry top coat) to smooth it all out!

Hope you enjoyed the post and the polish!  Thank you again Kelly for letting me guest post for you!

Thank you for a wonderful post Lisa!  Make sure to follow Cosmetic Sanctuary on Facebook and Twitter!

Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede Swatches & Review

Today we are going to hear the opinion of the lovely Doria. She was gracious enough to help me out and do a guest post. Thank you Doria! And it will be on something a little different from my normal nail postings. Her blog info is below but make sure to check out her Facebook page at facebook.com/BeautyPopShop

Hey lovelies! This is Doria, owner of BeautyPopShop (home of the “Nice Rack” nail polish rack) and primary beauty blogger at Makeup Chic, Literary Geek beauty blog. I know this is a bit of a switch from Set in Lacquer’s gorgeous nail swatches and art, but she was lovely enough to request I write a guest post for you guys and I thought it might be the perfect opportunity to share some of the new Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede lipsticks with you. I actually purchased these several weeks ago, but hadn’t had the chance before now to swatch them—now seems like the perfect opportunity!

For those of you that aren’t familiar with Revlon’s lip products, they offer a wide variety of lip lines ranging from lipstick to gloss; balm stain pencils to liners. These Colorstay Ultimate Suede lipsticks boast all-day staying power, hydrating Shea butter and Aloe ingredients, and a soft “suede” finish—according to Revlon’s site.

From left to right: #5 Muse, #30 High Heels, #20 Front Row

#5 Muse

Color: A medium fuchsia
Application/Performance: This was incredibly soft and smooth to apply. All of the formulas I tried glided on and had a super light-weight finish.
Muse was less pigmented than I would have thought. I’d describe all of these as more of a “wash” of color than opaque coverage. The swatch above shows 2 layers and while coverage is slightly buildable, it is not extremely opaque. The finish is semi-glossy and not what I would consider matte. I noticed that after a little bit of wear (under an hour) my lips actually felt a tad tacky. Not lip gloss sticky, but slightly tacky to each other.

I didn’t find this formula super drying, though I always wear a lip balm under my lip products. This did not stain my lips and wiped off easily when I was done wearing it, though it left a faint bit of shimmer scattered over my lips. This was the most pigmented of the bunch.

#20 Front Row

Color: A slightly peachy pink
Application/Performance: As with Muse, this had a smooth application and a barely-there feel once applied. This provided a slightly shimmery wash of peachy-pink, but was the least opaque of the three. This wore similar to Muse in every other way.

#30 High Heels

Color: A tea-rose pink

Application/Performance: This applied similarly to the other two, but had less buildable coverage than Muse. Similar to Front Row, this had a subtle shimmer to it.

Final Thoughts: I’m a bit torn on these. On the one hand I think they are perfect for someone that likes a slightly more subtle lip look or who needs a quick lip fix on the go. The formula is pleasant to wear and I love that they are light as air on your lips.

However, if you’re like me and you prefer opaque, pigmented coverage these are probably not what you’re looking for. I think I’ll probably use these once in a while if I’m out and want something fairly conservative on my lips, but don’t see myself reaching for these constantly. Perhaps my expectations were a bit high going into this review.

Compared to my favorite Revlon lippies the Just Bitten Kissable Lip Stain Balm pencils, which I highly recommend and wear constantly in Sweetheart and Lovesick, I’m a teeny bit bummed these didn’t measure up, but I think they’ll suit someone with more conservative lip habits than myself quite well.
Note: I never make claims regarding wear as I personally find that most things wear more quickly on me than the average person. I recommend either trying them yourself or consulting Revlon for information regarding their all-day wear claims.

Price: These were priced at $9.99 retail at my local Walgreens and CVS.

Where to Buy:  These seem to be available at most drugstores that carry Revlon products, though the variety of available colors seems to vary greatly from store to store near me.

For More Information: You can read additional information on Revlon’s Colorstay Ultimate Suede lipsticks along with other Revlon products on their website HERE.

Nail art with dots and lines using Zoya

Sunday, March 17, 2013

I haven't done any nail art in a while it seems. Life has been busy. I have missed it and decided to something - even if it were something simple. Time is still a precious commodity. But something about creating designs on my nails relaxes me.

So I pulled out a few Zoya polishes, my MASH Nails brushes, and my dotting tools.

Nail art with random lines an dots using Zoya
Nail art with random lines an dots using Zoya

I used Zoya Rekha for the base color. It is a wonderful cranberry red. For the black lines I used Zoya Raven and for the silver I used Zoya Trixie.

Random dots and lines are one of the easiest nail art designs to do I think. What is your "go to" nail art when you don't have much time or can't think of something more creative to do?

These products were both provided to me for an honest opinion and paid for by me.

Sation - Miss Antoinette Collection Swatches and review

I received some wonderful Sation polishes to review and share with you. Sation polish is from  Miss Professional Nails (Miss). Miss, a Los Angeles-based beauty company, is a veteran of the nail industry. Specializing in high-end quality nail lacquer, Miss brings lifestyle aesthetics through fashion, art and music to deliver timeless & trend-setting colors.

The polishes I am sharing with you are from the the Miss Antoinette collection.

Miss Antoinette Looks for Love in a Bottle

Miss Professional Nail (Miss) has launched of its Spring 2013 Campaign, Miss Antoinette. The collection is a shining salute to eloquent French beauty and Marie Antoinette’s glorious run as Queen of France.
After a recent visit to Versailles, Miss’ Creative Director Staci Dao was inspired to develop a theme that spun a modern twist on lacquer and love. She created a color collection that reflects an exquisite Parisian color palette that would have been icing on the cake for the legendary empress.
The collection offers a royally fun twist on Marie Antoinette’s flair for beauty and beaus. Her loyal subjects were forever fixated on her extravagant wardrobe, indulgent rituals and notorious love life.
Let's move on to the swatches. I have three of these gorgeous shades to share with you. These polishes dried to a high gloss shine. The formula was great. A couple of them were a little sheer and required three coats for complete opacity.

Love is in the Heir
: Your hands will be on cloud nine with this glistening powder blue. This shimmery pale blue leans toward a gray but is positively stunning with subtle shimmer and color. I did use three coats of this polish to provide complete opacity and enhanced color.

Of Corset I’ll Call You: This romantic rose shade is off-the-hooks. It is wonderful dusty rose shade that dries to a high gloss shine. It is on the sheer side so I used three coats of this shade to provide complete opacity and added color.

Guillotine Grape: A warm, wicked aubergine that will turn heads – permanently. This is my favorite of all the Sation polishes I have tried. This deep purple shade has shimmer and shine that seems to come from the depths of the polish. I used two coats of this polish for complete opacity.

Candylandia

Let's start off with the Candylandia collection. Candylandia was inspired by the edible escapism of Hasbro’s Candy Land board game, a classic favorite spanning six decades. Miss loved the bright, playful visuals of the swirly rainbow board, which sparked the creation of its own irresistibly sweet polish palette.

This whimsical collection offers winning colors that will stir up memories of childhood imagination and endless game-playing. Embark on a magical, manicured journey filled with fun characters and luscious lacquers.

These polishes have a great formula. Two coats and these dried to a high gloss shine. The dry time was relatively quick.

Let's move on to the swatches. These do not have a top coat.

Peppermint Pedi - is a radiant vermillion red. This red cream polish has a wonderful high gloss shine. Two coats results in full opacity.

Hand Perfection - Anti-aging hand care treatment - review and giveaway

Friday, March 15, 2013

Women pull out all the stops when it comes to fighting aging: eating right, working out, Botox, fillers, hair color, sleep – you name it. But the war against Father Time is usually fought from the neck up. One look at a woman’s hands and all those efforts are for naught.

You’re looking at your hands now aren’t you? Happy with what you see?

I have been sent a product for review that will make you see your hands differently - Hand Perfection. This is perfect for me to review. I won't tell you my age but let's just say I am no spring chicken. I will try this product for two weeks and let you know the results! Make sure to enter to win to win one of ten sets of this product

Ellen Sirot, the nation’s top hand model, not only wanted – but also needed – top quality hand care to perfect the tools of her trade. Nothing on the market was able to provide her with the results she demanded along with the preventative care she desired. So Sirot set out on a mission to offer women the most effective and affordable hand care possible.

I have tried the Nourishing Day Cream and the Nail and Cuticle Treatment and so far I am impressed. It's not greasy and soaks in well in a couple of minutes. The day cream does require some gentle massaging to work the cream into the skin well - but only for a couple of seconds. I love the application of the Nail and Cuticle treatment pen. It has a felt applicator to help to rub it into the skin and it doesn't leave that shiny film that you get from a lot of cuticle oils.
