Nail art using eye shadows tutorial - subtle floral look

Sunday, September 15, 2013

All of us have those makeup drawers and cabinets that are overflowing with half-empty (or is it half-full) palettes of eye shadows. Why not use them for nail art?

I have seen this on the Internet and decided to try my hand at it. I love the subtle marbled look it gives the nail. Although I think the next time I do this nail art I will try it with darker flowers.

It's really easy! I am going to show you how I got this look.

I started off with a base color of Milani Almond Bliss.

I grabbed one of my eye shadow palettes that has been used and abused. I guess I liked the misty green and gray shades in this palette the most. I also grabbed a cheap art brush. This isn't a nail art brush. It's too fluffy but it works great for this. I think this brush is one of those pack of ten brushes that I got at the dollar store.

I applied a top coat, not a fast dry top coat, and then dabbed on the eye shadow. Don't brush it on - just tap the eye shadow in the areas you want it. I applied different colors on the nail. It will look rough at the beginning. Don't worry about that and just keep going.

When the top coat is dry use the brush to apply long strokes to smooth the color. Then use your finger to run down each nail and smooth it even more.

I used acrylic paint to add white flowers and then I added details to each flower with gold acrylic paint.

The finished look is an antiqued look. I think the final outcome will depend on the colors you use. I can't wait to play with bright colored eye shadow.

Will this be something you would try? What colors would you use?

  3. That's pretty! Maybe I'll have to try that with some eye shadows that I don't use, or can't make them work for me. I'd love to see when you try this with bright colors!
