Soft and bright - Flowers on a gradient base tutorial

Sunday, April 14, 2013

I love nail art that has multiple dimensions and effects. This flower mani is soft, yet bold - subtle, yet bright.

It may look like it has a lot of elements to it but it is actually quite simple and forgiving. Flowers always seem to be very forgiving in nail art.

Start with a base coat and then apply a coat of base color. I used OPI Ab-Original. This color is a gorgeous shade of shimmery coral. Then use a cosmetic sponge to apply a gradient color to the tip of the nail. I used OPI Pompeii Purple, which isn't purple by the way - but an amazing shade of shimmery pink.

I love this combination of coral and pink together. They aren't colors I would normally have used together but I think they actually came together quite well.

Then I used a nail art brush from MASH Nails and applied white flower petals with acrylic paint. I followed up with a yellow highlight in each petal. Using black acrylic paint I added the stems, leaves and a black base at the bottom of the flower petals to give some additional depth and definition.

A top coat of Seche Vite Fast Dry top coat completed the look.

I received both of these polishes as a gift from some wonderful friends who thought they were polishes I had to have. They were so right!

  2. These are fabulous! I agree, the nice thing about flower nail art is that perfection is not required! I have found that somethings the best flower art is messy! Not that yours is! :)
